Cardi B Makes History Again, First Artist Since The Beatles and Ashanti To Have 3 Hot 100 Songs In T
June 16, 2017 Cardi B dropped her first single, “Bodak Yellow”, through Atlantic Records. To say “Bodak Yellow” performed well is an understatement. The single quickly climbed the Billboard hot 100 chart. Shortly after its release, Bodak Yellow jumped to number one on the charts, beating out Taylor Swifts “Look What You Made Me Do” single.
Prior to becoming Number one Cardi was interviewed by Charlamagne on The Breakfast Club. Toward the end of the interview Charlamagne said ““All I wanna see is Cardi B have the number one record,” he continued. “Why do you think you should be number one cardi, tell the people why you should be number one?” To which Cardi B jokingly said “because, help a god dang sista out”.
Then Charlamagne added that Cardi will be the first female hip hop artist to have a number one record without a feature, “you’ll be the first since Lauryn Hill 23 years ago”. Well, on October 7th, “Bodak Yellow” hit number one and Almanzar indeed made history. She was indeed the first female rapper to have a number 1 song in the country, without any features, since Lauryn Hill.
Following her first number one single, “MotorSport" and “No Limit” which featured Cardi, also hit high on the charts. MotorSport by Migos is number 7 on BillBoard Charts and “No Limit” by G Eazy currently 4th.
Cardi B is now the third artist to have her first three songs (“Bodak Yellow”, “MotorSport”, “No Limit”) simultaneously on the Billboard hot 100 charts top ten. The Beatles and Ashanti are the only others to have done the same but Almanzar is the first rapper ever to do so.
Cardi also released “Bartier Cardi” which features rapper 21 Savage on December 22nd. The single is currently 14 on the hot 100 Billboard Chart. The Bronx native posted a video on Instagram celebrating and thanking fans for making that possible.
Her reign doesn’t end there. It was announced via Instagram that Cardi B is featured on Bruno Mars “Finesse” remix and will drop January 3rd at midnight. This is sure to be another hit record, great way to ring in the new year.
