Tuesday night at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards Beyonce surprised Colin Kaeperrnick by honoring him with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. The award celebrates athletes who use their voice and platform to highlight social injustices.
Beyonce said that she was "proud and humbled" to be presenting the award.
Colin, who is the first player to kneel during the national anthem to protest racial inequality, said "I accept this award not for myself, but on behalf of the people, because if it were not for my love of the people, I would not have protested.”
Kaepernick currently remains unsigned. He has stated that he feels this is because of his protests. Still, Kaepernick has vowed to continue to service the people and fight for racial equality.
During his speech he stated "with or without the NFL's platform i will continue to work for the people because my platform is the people". Congratulations Kaepernick, you will always have the support of the people.
