Spotlight Interview on Mont Brown

Mont Brown is from Philadelphia and is very influential throughout the city. He is a prominent motivational figure to Philadelphia's youth. Recently Mont participated in the 1,000sneakergoal. Many others helped to collect 960 sneakers to give to those in need. Mont is an ambitious, self-motivated, influential, and vibrant individual who is active in hip hop culture and in community organizing.
ANGELICA: You are very active and influential in Philadelphia (especially Southwest Philly). What drives you to be such a motivational and positive figure throughout the city?
MONT BROWN: Im from the streets of southwest philly, it nothing sweet about these streets I loss my father, friends and family members to these street. I ain't wanna be a Statistic plus I had my son when I was for 14 years old so that was a lot of motive for me also I knew since a kid god had and have a great path for me to take in life . I wanted to show people from my hood that anything is possible if you work hard for it and I'm here to upset standards and Surpass they Expectations that America set on us .
ANGELICA: There is an evident strong connection between you and hip-hop, when did hip-hop begin to play a major role in your life?
MONT BROWN: I was a big Def Jam fan when I was young but I really fell in love with music. When Bad Boys, Rockafella, Ruff Ryder had it on lock they was the best years to it was so kick great music out everybody was in they own lane.
ANGELICA:Do you have high hopes for any specific upcoming Philly artists? Are you managing any Philly artists?
MONT BROWN: Philly have a bright future it's Alot of dope artist coming my Daugther solis is dope she have like a Neo soul kinda type vibe going on I only manager her but I do help other artist with shows and I just try to guide them into the real Direction.
ANGELICA:What are the major challenges that you have faced so far as a hip hop artist?
MONT BROWN: You gotta build a strong fan base and you gotta learn how to make fan spend money on your Product.
ANGELICA: Lastly what is some advice that you would give to Philly’s Black youth?
MONT BROWN: The dream is real and don't ever sale yourself short also always be who you are in embrace who you are keep God first and always try to help others.
